Romeo Zulu

A poem from The Watchman of Africa

The Watchman of Africa

Romeo Zulu, 2021. The title poem, part one: a warning to Africa about the loans that follow the missionaries.

Africa, watch out for modern colonization
In the past they colonized you through missionaries,
Now you will be colonized through loans.

Africa, beware of your trading partners,
There is no fair trade that involves Africans and never was.
Africa, beware of the loans,
They want to debt-trap you.

In the past they enslaved us.
In the past they colonized us.
What makes you think they have changed?
The offspring of a snake is a snake.
